New Classes!
So I’ve been yapping on a lot lately about Qi Gong, Foundation Training, Ginastica Natural and all this time you’ve probably been like “yeah mate that’s cool and all but I’ve got no idea what you’re talking about,” or maybe you haven’t but either way, for the benefit of everyone involved, I’ve decided to simplify things with the development of two different classes, four times a week.
The first new class is simply called Back Care. Think of this as your bi-weekly check-in where you will develop an awareness of the subtleties of your body in an effort to manage back pain or avoid it all together. Using a blend of different techniques, classes start with gentle flows, aimed at moving energy around and waking up the body by stimulating the different energy centers/meridians, increasing overall vitality. Once the body is awake we then work to lengthen/decompress the spine, and move through a series of postures which will alleviate symptoms of back and joint pain at their root, as well as improve your overall posture. If you are someone who sits all day, this class is for you. If you are someone who stands all day, this class is for you. I practice this class myself every day and learning these techniques will do a great deal to improve your overall health and well-being and will keep you moving well for a long time.
I like to think of the Back Care class as the Yin to my Surf-Fit Yang. You don’t need to be a surfer to enjoy the benefits of the Surf-Fit class, but if you are looking to gain a level of fitness similar to that of some of the best surfers in the world, this is the way to do it. With an emphasis on flow, classes are spent mostly on the ground, crawling, spinning, rolling and moving in a playful way that reminds me of being a kid. Not only will you be challenged physically, but the mental aspect of this practice gets you thinking just as much as it will get you moving.
